TECHMUNDO 2.0

A Fake E-Series Device.

Nice looking one though. :)

What’ll push me to upgrade my much loved E61 isn’t a gorgeous touch screen, or camera (E61i), but most probably a faster processor, Feature Pack 1 of S60v3 and the absence of pop ports.

Just had one of those odd moments with my E61.

I was driving home last night and my E61 was plugged in to my car stereo (using the pioneer aux in cable, CD-RB10) listening to podcasts. I was quite happy with the quality of the output when all of a sudden I receive a text message that resulted in a little beep to let me know that a text message was received.

I don’t know if its a bug or whatever, but the bass of the audio was boosted, resulting in a much fuller sound that what I was originally listening to. I took out the connection, plugged it back in, and it went back to how it sounded before.

I tried sending myself a text message but no bass boost.

My E61 is going cuckoo.

YouTube on the E61

The easiest way to watch youtube videos on the E61? TinyTube!

I honestly don’t know how TinyTube works — if it converts all of youTube’s voluminous videos or it makes available a limited number of YouTube vids; but however it does it, Tinytube allows E61 users to download youTube videos for playback in real player.

No need to wait for an updated Nokia Browser to play youTube files.

My personal favorite — Kiwi!

E61 Heating Up (and podcasts)

I’ve been completely getting into the whole podcasting “phenomenon” a few years too late. I’ve had my ipod nano for over a year now (and the iRiver ihp120 before that) and I never really got podcasting until now.

With the E61 I find it very convenient that I can just set it to update daily at 7 in the morning, and it connects automatically to the wi-fi access point at home and download any new podcasts. When I open my E61 podcasting app, it just sits there, waiting for me to plug it in to the car stereo and laugh with Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht on diggnation; or enjoying a recap analysis of the latest episode of Veronica Mars via the Neptune Pirate Radio, or learn something new with various photography or science related podcast.

I really find it enjoyable, simple and convenient, listening to podcasts to my E61, so much so that my 1 giger is filled up. I deleted all my music and videos and transferred those to my trusty ipod, and left the 1 gig exclusively for podcasts. And I’m now feeling the lack of space. I might be upgrading to a 2 gig mini-sd card in the near future.

I just notice something, first with Symtorrent, and now with Podcasting. With the wi-fi on and and the E61 downloading stuff, the battery is quickly drained. So I do the logical thing and keep the phone plugged in while downloading updates, but the back plate gets warm. And it gets warmed alot. I just want to know if this is normal. Any of you guys experience this? Normal charging doesn’t warm up the phone, but the wifi-download-charge combo seems to, and I just worry that it’s frying up my battery or worse.

My Widsets

Someone informed me that my widsets wasn’t really my widsets. I guess I made a mistake when I tried to make one a month ago. And now I notice that there’s already a Techmundo 2.0 made, and all I really have to do is fix the link on my blog to point to the proper widset.

So here it is!!! (The link on the right sidebar has been fixed as well.)

Super Miners

Everyone knows that I’ve been happily wasting tons of hours playing Super Miners.  I’m on Level 49 right now and quite content on the fact that I have forty-ish more levels to explore.

Last night I went to watch The Covenant with some friends; and while waiting for the movie to start, a fellow E61 owner and myself tried to play multiplayer bluetooth co-op mode.  It was awesome!!!  It added another dimension to the very enjoyable gameplay.  It really was true co-op playing as both of you have to device schemes not to run out of time.  Division of labor, communication and planning was really essential to hurdle even the first couple of stages.  What was nice was that you get to play brand new levels that pose new challenges, especially that they shortened the available time to complete each level.

I haven’t tried out the competitive mode yet but I think it will rock!

Here are some links to some more ringtones . . .

N5500 Techno Tunes (Rapidshare)

Mobizines

Mark Tesch’s new E61 blog pointed me to Mobizines.

In a nutshell, Mobizines does to magazines what Widsets does to websites. Popular titles such as T3, GQ, Maxim, Planet F1, BBC News are collated and made available to mobile phone users.

Subscribing to Magazine titles is easy enough. Each title features 4 to 5 articles on average. What I really liked was that everytime I refreshed Mobizine, it informed me when it would be updated next. I haven’t been using this service for long, but I’ve been told that certain titles such as BBC is updated daily.

Here’s the list of all the magazine titles available.

S60SpotOn

S60SpotOn has a new version out. Version 0.06

According to their website (translated from German) , the changes for the new version includes . . .

  • Automatically stores program settings, and
  • Ignore status camera light for the support of external lighting

I don’t really know what that means (especially the second feature) but they have a nice new icon. :)

Podcasting 1.0

It’s now an official release.

I tried it last night, and it was quite easy to use.  Search for anything and you’ll be presented by a number of related podcasts to choose from.  Subscribing to any of these was a breeze, everything was structured in such a way that no one gets lost.  S60 has some tips to those new in podcasting (like myself).

Sadly there are no podcasts for the E61.  Umm . .. calling other E61 bloggers . . . anyone interested in making a podcast?
