Updated Mobile Divx is OUT!

Version 0.85 of Mobile Divx is out.

Click here to download.  I wonder what they’ve updated.  I told myself I wont upgrade my E61 until I finish SuperMiners.  So I also wont upgrade my Divx until I finish that damn game, last few levels . .. last few levels . . .

Mobile Divx Has Expired!

I got tons of emails and some comments that Divx for E61 (S60v3) has expired.  I checked mine, and . . . yup . . . it has indeed.

Super Miners and the updated firmware

I still haven’t upgraded my firmware, simply because I’m in the middle of Super Miners.  I’m helplessly stuck in level 84 (I think) and I don’t want to mess up my save game.

E61 updates

As you guys can see, I haven’t been updating my blog recently.  Partly because there isn’t really much to write about, and partly because I have been quite busy with other stuff — christmas shopping and recently enrolling in technical analysis for the stock market.  Anyhoo, my E61 has been acting up.  The backlight switches off with for no apparent reason, although an annoyance, it doesn’t occur too much.  Also I noticed a couple of phone restarts the other day, but apart from that, no real problems.

It’s just wierd that everytime a gadget of mine acts up, a new firmware is available.  With the E61, the new firmware is up.

Ed writes about his observations on the new firmware in his great blog.

Apple iPhone

Do you hate the telephone calls from telemarketers?  If you want to stop telemarketers, sign online today.  Telezapper is an easy way to stop telemarketers!  If you want to spend a quiet evening at home without being interupted by the phone, get Telezapper!

I was driving home the other night listening to the diggnation podcast and they were talking about the soon to be released, much anticipated, and just like any other apple product, much hyped, iPhone.

Note that the mock up is just a mock up. But it’s the nicest one I can find.

It started out with Kevin Rose, being typically Kevin, didn’t want to spill a single bit of info about the iPhone. Tight lipped Kevin eventually gave in to Alex’s continual prodding and boozing and gave some really nifty specs about Apple’s upcoming mobile telephony device. It’s coming out in three variants (GSM, and the other two), two different storage capacities (4 and 8 gigers), separate batteries for the mp3 and phone functions, touch screen, slide out keyboard, . . .

I’m actually very interested; more interested with the iPhone than the new Nokia’s mobile computer/phones. It’s set to be released next month. Let’s hope they throw in Wi-Fi connectivity and I’d really be tempted. Oh no. . .

E61 Heating Up (and podcasts)

I’ve been completely getting into the whole podcasting “phenomenon” a few years too late. I’ve had my ipod nano for over a year now (and the iRiver ihp120 before that) and I never really got podcasting until now.

With the E61 I find it very convenient that I can just set it to update daily at 7 in the morning, and it connects automatically to the wi-fi access point at home and download any new podcasts. When I open my E61 podcasting app, it just sits there, waiting for me to plug it in to the car stereo and laugh with Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht on diggnation; or enjoying a recap analysis of the latest episode of Veronica Mars via the Neptune Pirate Radio, or learn something new with various photography or science related podcast.

I really find it enjoyable, simple and convenient, listening to podcasts to my E61, so much so that my 1 giger is filled up. I deleted all my music and videos and transferred those to my trusty ipod, and left the 1 gig exclusively for podcasts. And I’m now feeling the lack of space. I might be upgrading to a 2 gig mini-sd card in the near future.

I just notice something, first with Symtorrent, and now with Podcasting. With the wi-fi on and and the E61 downloading stuff, the battery is quickly drained. So I do the logical thing and keep the phone plugged in while downloading updates, but the back plate gets warm. And it gets warmed alot. I just want to know if this is normal. Any of you guys experience this? Normal charging doesn’t warm up the phone, but the wifi-download-charge combo seems to, and I just worry that it’s frying up my battery or worse.

Mobizines

Mark Tesch’s new E61 blog pointed me to Mobizines.

In a nutshell, Mobizines does to magazines what Widsets does to websites. Popular titles such as T3, GQ, Maxim, Planet F1, BBC News are collated and made available to mobile phone users.

Subscribing to Magazine titles is easy enough. Each title features 4 to 5 articles on average. What I really liked was that everytime I refreshed Mobizine, it informed me when it would be updated next. I haven’t been using this service for long, but I’ve been told that certain titles such as BBC is updated daily.

Here’s the list of all the magazine titles available.

S60SpotOn

S60SpotOn has a new version out. Version 0.06

According to their website (translated from German) , the changes for the new version includes . . .

  • Automatically stores program settings, and
  • Ignore status camera light for the support of external lighting

I don’t really know what that means (especially the second feature) but they have a nice new icon. :)

Podcasting 1.0

It’s now an official release.

I tried it last night, and it was quite easy to use.  Search for anything and you’ll be presented by a number of related podcasts to choose from.  Subscribing to any of these was a breeze, everything was structured in such a way that no one gets lost.  S60 has some tips to those new in podcasting (like myself).

Sadly there are no podcasts for the E61.  Umm . .. calling other E61 bloggers . . . anyone interested in making a podcast?
