TECHMUNDO 2.0

Podcasting 1.0

It’s now an official release.

I tried it last night, and it was quite easy to use.  Search for anything and you’ll be presented by a number of related podcasts to choose from.  Subscribing to any of these was a breeze, everything was structured in such a way that no one gets lost.  S60 has some tips to those new in podcasting (like myself).

Sadly there are no podcasts for the E61.  Umm . .. calling other E61 bloggers . . . anyone interested in making a podcast?

WLan Wizard

This is currently one of my favorite apps. It scans the area for wi-fi connections and easily loads the Web Browser when you select a particular access point.

From the Nokia Website . . .

Is there a WLAN network out there? The WLAN Wizard will tell you, store it and launch it for you! WLAN Wizard shows the available WLANs in the range of N80 Internet Edition directly on the idle screen and it is possible to start web browsing immediately. WLAN Wizard also automatically creates the needed WLAN settings making WLAN usage extremely easy.

Technically an application for the N80 but it still works with the E61. Tommi said that on the N80, WLan wizard minimizes to the standby screen, but regretably, on the E61, press and hold the menu button to see that the program is running in the background.

I’ve also read on a message board that there are some people who encountered problems when installed on E-Series devices. Personally, I haven’t encountered any.

After installing the sis file, it will show up in your Extras folder.

This nifty little app can be downloaded here. Best of all, it’s free!

Mobile Instant Messaging

If you are searching for a call center service that will be there when you need it, research our business!  Whether you need a phone answering service that works 24 hours a day, or you just need phone coverage during peak times, our business will work for you.  Sign online for more information on our answering service!

I’ve blogged on a couple of occasions about free options for mobile instant messaging. I use yahoo messenger exclusively and I’ve tried to access it using Mig33 and Agile Messenger. I personally prefer Agile Messenger, but it costs USD$30 annually to use. Mig33 and Morange is free, but both are Java based apps and take considerably longer to load. I’m happy that E61 users have options out there, power users will undoubtedly gravitate towards Agile Messenger, while casual IM’ers to the freewares.

I don’t use the E61 to access my ym that much so right now I feel there is no need for me to puchase Agile Messenger, I’m quite content with Mig33, but like they say, you get what you pay for.

Super Miners and Darkest Fears

Apologies for not updating the blog as I usually do.  I’ve been busy with some stuff these past week (and not just with playing games like a certain E61 blogger assumed . . .  ummm, thats you Jake! :) ).  On the times when I am idle, I admit that I looooove playing Super Miners, but I am hopelessly stuck in Level 41.  Can someone help me please???

Also, another game that took a whole lot of my time was Darkest Fear.  Their third and final installment is out, entitled Nightmare.

I got my wireless router back!!!

After almost a month of no wireless internet at home, I got my DLink router back. It was purchased in Singapore by my sister before as a Christmas present so I had to bring it back there last month. I was surprised that they exchanged it, no questions asked. They said they had a Lifetime Exchange Warranty for their routers. Thank you D-Link! :)

I realized that without internet access and stuff, the E61 is just an ordinary phone to me.  The primary reason why I purchased it was because of the connectivity options available, specifically wireless internet.  With my router out of commission for a whole month, I was left with pretty much nothing to blog about.  Data plans for mobile phones is still pretty expensive in the Philippines with telcos charging by the kilobyte.  Now I’m happy that even in my limited domicile, I’m hooked up.

Uh-Oh . . .

I’m getting really worried about the E61.  I posted a month ago about my phone vibrating for no apparent reason and that I had to shut off the phone to get rid of the vibration.  I’ve been experiencing that every so often, I’ve had my 5th phone shutdown because of that seemingly harmless problem.

A friend of mine who bought the phone a couple of days ahead of me had to have his E61 serviced by Nokia. The joystick went bonkers and he isn’t even a heavy user of the phone.  Now I’m really worried since I spend, on average, two hours fiddling with the joystick while playing S-tris, Super Miners and Sky Force.

Christmas Theme

Ueli Dauwalder’s Christmas theme for the E61.  If you haven’t visited his repository of E61 themes yet, this is a good time to check it out.  He’s probably designed the most number of  themes for the E61, most of which are pretty good.  A halloween theme is also found in the site but I prefer Daniel’s HotSun Theme, technically not a halloween theme, but the bright yellow orange colors make me think of carved out pumpkin faces.

Instango

Instango is a new java based app for instant messaging using the open source Jabber platform.  It uses the different connectivity options of the E61 such as wireless lan, gprs or 3G.  And the best thing?  It’s optimized for the E61.  This is good news for E61 users, lots more free options for IM chat is popping up, and Instango is probably one of the best out there — small footprint, reliable and speedy.  I can’t wait to give this one a go when my wireless router is fixed by the end of the week.

Dr. Divx

Can someone help me with Dr. Divx? I got some emails before you guys saying that freeware Dr. Divx can be used to convert video files for the E61. I’ve toyed with it a couple of times and all I got were garbage. Can anyone send me their Dr. Divx settings that work?

Morange!!!

Do almost everything with this nifty little java app.  Morange does push email, push rss (their own concoction), PIM synchronization, remote desktop access. . .  That’s a lot for a tiny 300kb app.
