Bye-bye Cheapo Audio Adapter!

I finally threw away the USD$3.50 Made in China audio adapter that I bought last week. It was giving me too much trouble. I have to plug it in a couple of times before it gets recognized by the phone and I was getting worried that it might eventually damage my pop port. So today, to the garbage bin it went!

I went to Greenhills and I finally bought the Nokia AD-15. I shopped around and found that I really had just two choices. I chose the AD-15 over the AD-46 simply because it had a much shorter cable. The AD-15 can only do one thing, which is to provide for a headphone output jack for nokia users via the pop port. The AD-46, on the other hand, has much more features such as integrated FM antenna, remote control, built-in microphone, volume control and a clip attachment. I figured out that I really didn’t need the other features that the AD-46 offered, and for half the price and maybe one-tenth of the cable length, the AD-15 will make a handy addition to my E61 arsenal.

There are other audio adapters by nokia, but most of them have built in earphones, and I wanted to be able to use my own.

A Six Minute Video Review of the E61

A video review from Mobileburn for those who have yet to purchase the E61; or for the rest of us to reaffirm our long held belief that the E61 is the greatest phone out there. :)

Unboxing your E61

Relive the moment you held your E61 for the very first time. :)

Convert Videos for the E61

One thing I like about the E61 is it can seem to replace every single handheld electronic item I have. My nano now permanently resides in my car plugged into the car stereo; I’ve barely played with my Nintendo DS in over a week; and I’m enjoying iPod Video Functionality on my phone.

One of the first things I wanted to do when I got the E61 was load it up with music and video files. Uploading music from itunes was simple, I just had to drag and drop files from itunes straight to my memory card. The videos were slightly tricky, because I didn’t own a single video in my hard drive that’s compatible with either the E-series Real Player or the iPod Video (simply because I didn’t own one).

I searched online for an easy, fool-proof, and more importantly, free media converter; and I found Super!

Super operates easily enough, just drag your video files to the program’s interface, click the option for iPod Video and in a matter of minutes, you have E-61 ready video files. Being a Firefly/Serenity junkie, I immediately converted Done The Impossible and I was happily glued to the screen of my phone for a good 80 minutes.

The Real Player can’t seem to recognize videos over 60 minutes long, so split up those full length movie files before convertion.

My E61 Wishlist

I’ve had my E61 for 5 days now and I am loving it. Here, though are just some things that I think will made the E61 much better . . . just my 2 cents :)

  • An external access for the memory card.  I find uploading via bluetooth and synching via USB1.1 too slow, especially when I’m uploading videos or mp3s.  Right now I pop open the battery cover at least once a day to transfer files to the E61; and wouldn’t it have been much more convenient if the memory card was accessible without having to sliding open the battery cover?   Plus points for making the memory card hot swappable though.
  • A headphone out jack!   To connect earphones, you need a cable to connect to the phone just to connect your earphones.   It just doesn’t make sense.
  • The ability to have only unread messages show up in the standby screen.

Also, I’m on the lookout for some apps. Let me know if some of these functionalities are available in software currently available.

  • A better audio player.   Something that’s similar to itunes, and something that can synch to itunes using a PC.   Album art would be nice, a better database of artists, album, genre, etc etc. If I find an audio app that I like, I think I’ll get a bigger capacity mini-sd and ditch my nano.
  • An application that manages the Wi-fi connection.  It annoys me that every single wi-fi enabled program (web browser, widsets, agile messenger, etc.) will attempt to connect to a wlan connection even if I’m already connected. Wouldn’t it be nice to be online and have all your wlan apps working together?
  • More E61 Games! I’m tired of playing block breaker and have it show up on just one third of my screen.
and the eradication of all blog spammers from the face of this world!
