Salling Clicker for the E61
One program for the E61 that everyone seems to be raving about is Salling Clicker. Although the Symbian S60 3rd Edition version has yet to be released, E-series shows you how to install Salling Clicker on both your computer (both PC and Mac compatible) and the E61.
Installation went smoothly enough, although I hit a road bump with my computer bluetooth dongle. Currently Salling Clicker is only compatible with Toshiba and Widcomm bluetooth stacks, and I was using a Bluesoleil bluetooth dongle that I puchased cheaply from CDRKing (USD$6.20). After reading countless posts from forums and posts from the Salling Clicker website that said the Bluesoleil stack will be supported in future versions, I was convinced that there was a way to make my dongle work. I didn’t want to wait, I wanted it to work right now, and my persistence was rewarded.
I was able to locate a hacked version of Widcomm’s latest bluetooth stack that supposedly could work with other bluetooth dongles; and work it did! Follow these simple steps:
- Uninstall the current bluetooth driver from your computer. Make sure to delete even those files left over by the uninstallation process.
- Reboot!!!
- Disconnect the bluetooth dongle.
- Download (around 45MB), unRar and Install this file (Setup.exe).
- During the installation process, it will ask you to connect the bluetooth dongle. Disregard that and continue installing without connecting the dongle.
- After the driver is installed, connect the dongle and Windows XP will automatically detect and install the necessary drivers.
- Rejoice!!! Your unsupported bluetooth can now work! (If you did this properly, open the Salling Clicker program on your PC, click the About tab, and it should say “Support Information - Widcomm Bluetooth (5.0.1.802): Device Present”
I only have one gripe with Salling Clicker. The icon shows up on the E61 as this teenie tiny icon. Look at the picture posted above. It’s TINY!!!!
