Five Things, My Turn!

Antony has tagged me, so I guess, It’s my turn. Tsk tsk tsk . . .viral posts . . could be fun .. so here goes. ..

Five things about me you might not have known

  • My real name is Richie. I’ve been using the nick agwe23 for the longest time that I’ve gotten phone calls and snail mails addressed to agwe23. There was even a funny story where I had to make a fake ID to claim a package in the local post office for a product sample sent to me, and it was addressed to a certain someone named Mr. Agwe. Go figure. :)
  • My firsts . . . hmmm . . . my very first mobile phone was the Philips Fizz. I’ve owned just about every mobile phone brand there is . . . Ericsson, Samsung, Panasonic, Philips. Oh, no Sagem, Alcatel and Seimens on my list. Nokia only showed up on my radar with the N6110/6150 (that I couldn’t afford, so I had to be happy with the N5110) and the Matrix Phone N7110. My first Symbian phone was the N7650; the N7650 sadly made me say I’ll never buy another Nokia phone again, . . . until the E61 came along.
  • I’m a math geek. I love puzzles. I play sudoku on a daily basis on the newspaper and those randomly generated puzzles online. My geekiness also explains why I love doing those math problems on the Nintendo DS’ Brain Age, the copycat Brain Juice (I’ll be terribly sore if I’m not as fast as a cheetah).
  • As much as I love computers / tech, I only know of technology on a somewhat superficial level. I never took any programming course (although I think I would in the future, maybe Java or something). I was a student of psychology and finance (double major) in college.
  • I used to be a member of Mensa.

Ack, I don’t know who to tag! I tag Tommi, stmcgill, Sanyci, Mark Tesch, and Ueli Dauwalder.

Removing Pesky Themes

Ever had those tough to remove themes? Installed them, but after awhile they lose their appeal and when you try to remove them, they aren’t even listed in the list of uninstallables?

S60 3rd’s Echozulu has this trick up his sleve. (The Step by step is a quote from their site, click on the link to see the guide with pics)

1. Connect your device to your PC in ‘Mass storage’ mode - or insert your Mini SD card into a card reader and connect it to your PC.

2. Once your PC recognizes your card a new drive will appear under ‘My Computer’. Open it, and browse to \private\10207114\import.

3. Browse through each of the folders in this directory to find the theme you would like to remove. The MBM, MIF, and SKN files in each folder should each be named after the theme - so if you want to remove a theme called “MyTheme”, look for “MyTheme.mbm” etc.

*Note that you may see some MBM/MIF/SKN files named simply “themepackage.mbm” etc. In this case, simply open the SKN file in Notepad and you will see the actual theme name in the first few lines of text. Here is an example:

In the example you can see that the actual name of the theme is N80 Simplified v2 (created by teddymustupo).

4. Once you’ve found the folder containing the theme files you’d like to remove, simply delete the contents of the folder (don’t delete the folder itself).

Now put your card back in your phone you’ll notice that the theme is no longer listed under themes and you’ve freed up some space on your memory card.

WOW!!!

I’ve never been an Apple fanboy. I was late jumping into the iPod bandwagon. I proudly toted around my iRiver ihp-120 (the 20 gig iRiver Jukebox) until it died and was informed that it would cost me more than a brand new unit to repair; which prompted my decision to shun my non-conformist ways and join the hordes of white earphone users. I got myself the 1st gen 4 gig nano and I was quite happy with it, it worked as it should, and when I get problems with it, which is next to nil, I can be assured of quality customer service.

When the rumor mills started churning about the Apple iPhone, honestly, I was skeptical. Most people change their mobile phones (well, at least in the Philippines) on average, once a year. Which made me not want to bundle my iPod into a phone that I would have to sell off in a year to purchase the newer, shinier, techier product. Then I heard Kevin Rose’s leaks, touchscreen, pull-out keyboard, dual battery, . . . and I started getting the itch.

Now it’s official. It runs OSX. Wi-Fi with Edge. Quadband. Dual Battery. Touchscreen. Synchs with iTunes. Widgets compatible. 2 megapixel camera. Widescreen video playback. This is it. This was the touchscreen widescreen iPod video that the industry was waiting for, except it came with mobile telephony functions. I’m really drooling.

The drawback? It comes with a hefty price tag. $599 for the 8 gig version, and $499 for the 4 gigers. Out 1st quarter of 2008 in Asia (mid 2007 in the US, and last quarter 2007 in Europe). Some people would argue that its a justified price, but for me the point of a convergence product is that it should be cheaper since it combines a few technologies in a neat little package. Granted that the iPhone is as pretty and as neat as a convergence product, I don’t get their thinking that the ipod is 200 bucks and the phone is 300, so the total should be 500. It makes no sense.

My fervent wish? It’s that I become a good boy this 2007 and Santa gives me an 8 gig iPod this christmas. :)

Oh, one last thing, I’m worried that I have fat fingers which would make it hard for me to use the non stylus iPhone.

iWant!
