Beta Version of AquaCalendar and Papyrus Screenshots
I just wanted to do a side by side comparison of both highly anticipated scheduling software AquaCalendar and Papyrus. Both really does a great job improving the built in application in the E61. I slightly favor Papyrus at the moment, because it is noticeably faster than AquaCalendar. I also liked Papyrus for using Hi-res fonts to cram more usable information on screen (those with bad eyesights might disagree with me on this one though). As previously stated, I am not a heavy user of scheduling software, but for those of you who are interested in these, here are side by side screenies.
Daily Views (Papyrus vs AquaCalendar)

Monthly Views (Papyrus vs AquaCalendar)

Grid / Busy Week Views (Papyrus vs AquaCalendar)

Papyrus also has a list view that I find most helpful.

Cool, didn’t know you were a beta tester for Papyrus
Hi,
Aquacalendar does also have a list view. And Contacts and birthdays and tasksview.
It has a lot to offer but I prefer the Papyrus. Much cleaner and more info on f.e. the weekview. Both are missing something important in my (honest…) opinion:
In weekview the weekend days are very small (especially in Aquacalendar). As a musician I work mainly in the weekends and I have a lot of appointments on those days. No way I can use the weekvieuw in any of the programs…

nice to hear your inputs wouterk. like i said i don’t use it much. thats why i posted screenies so that you guys can decide for yourself
I was playing with AC last night - I think you can set it to use hi-res fonts.
AC lets you set the fonts as you like - customization is great. Really really small highres-font is possible
I like that. Papyrus is a very good approach, AC is more flexible and has a lot more very usable features. Best thing for me: hotkeys which you can set up for yourself - i.e. “1″ for day-view, “w” for week-view, “t” for “new todo”, f for fullscreen, …..
Very handy on an E61!
How can you download this version ?
The font size in every view in papyrus can be set to anything between extra small and extra large so font size should not be a problem for anybody.
To wouterk: in papyrus, go to settings -> general settings and set “week start on” -> Saturday. Now week ends will appear at the top of the week view and should be large enough to display up to 4 appointments and/or tasks
[…] But now there has been lots of fuss about Papyrus and AquaCalendar, Calendar apps for S60 3rd Edition phones. (Similar to Calcium which is a better calculator). They have been in beta for some time already and now finally AquaCalendar has released a stable version! Papyrus is coming soon as well! If you want a side-by-side review see Techmundo. […]
Do either of them have a week view that is made up of 7 columns?
IMHO one of the best visual features on the E61 is active standby and being able to see email messages, appointments and tasks at a glance, whilst still maintaining access to the phones important funtions via a single key. Neither Aquacalender or Papyrus support this active standby. Whilst both are “nice” products, until they support active standby the good features of both products are outweighed by this deficiency.
Of course they do support active standby! What do you mean? They both use the build in calendar, so every appoitment or task is there, too. And active standby lists these entries!! So you can have both worlds - the standby screen with some information, and AC or Papyrus for the real working

Integrated standby with Papyrus/AC

I wonder if Nokia will ever release API’s for changing the active standby. So developers can integrate Papyrus or Aqua Calendar with it.
