DivX on the E61

DivX on the E61!!! Woohoo!!! No more reconverting divx to mp4.

Get it here.

I haven’t had much time to play with it, but one thing I learned is that its default full screen mode is Landscape which doesn’t really suit the E61.

Dig through the menu and change the fullscreen mode to portrait.

More of my thoughts later. :)

Haven’t tried this yet but Super works perfect. I get my dvd’s down to 400-500Mb with perfect quality and sound and I very rarely download divx-files anymore.

But hey, its a great addition for many and im happy to found it. Will try it out.

I have tried it , Divx is also offering Doctor Divx OSS version for free , DR Divx is way better than Create , I kept the screen size small , will work later with larger screen size , P.S i also used QT PRo for mpeg 4 lost the sound

  4. September 24th, 2006 | 9:40 pm

my problem with super is that sometimes I have mpg files; and I always get error messages whenever I try to convert mpegs to mp4. also, real player seems to have a 40 minute limit or a file size limit that anything longer or bigger than its threshold it wont recognize.

  5. September 24th, 2006 | 9:49 pm

    @daniel.

don’t you have problems running those 400-500mb mp4s? I cant even run an episode of prisonbreak on real player (roughly 42 minutes)

I can run even 2 and a half hour movies on my phone, no rejection from real player. Maybe because of the firmware upgrade?

  9. September 25th, 2006 | 7:14 am

i have the new firmware as well. weird. i’ll try it again :) but i tried loading an episode of prisonbreak in real player (got the episode online then converted using super) it doesn’t even detect it.

My encoding settings are maybe different. I’m using AAC,11025 sampling frequency, one channel audio, 24kbps. Video: IPod, Mpeg4, 25 frames/sec, 288kbps (works fine), no directshow, no hiQ, no stretch. Nothing selected on “Other encode options”.

  11. September 25th, 2006 | 7:37 am

ok i’ll try it out! thanks! :)

In fact seems we must reconvert video-files anyway, because coded at “normal” computer resolutions they are framing on E61. And there’s the AC3 codec that E61 cannot handle… Anyway, maybe the files are smaller, at same quality, with DIVX.

  20. September 27th, 2006 | 1:24 pm

yup we have to reconvert still. i havent had time to play with divx though. the only time i did i noticed that the audio and video were out of synch

  21. September 27th, 2006 | 6:11 pm

Hmmm… Do you have any idea on the maximum parameters this player can handle? Like, resolution, fps, settings, whatever that you plug in when converting movies?

  22. David
    September 27th, 2006 | 8:26 pm

Here’s the mencoder command that worked for me. I have little/no audio sync issues and am playing this at 24 fps on my Nokia E50. Dig it.

    mencoder Angel\ -\ 5×08\ -\ Destiny.avi -ovc lavc -oac copy -lavcopts vbitrate=96:abitrate=64 -vf scale=352:193 -o e50/5×8.avi -ffourcc DIVX

  23. September 27th, 2006 | 11:00 pm

    bwahaha! sorry about that:)

anyway, i dont know if this will count as a tip but what i did was i bought SmartMovie version 3.25 (the convertor for PC). This version has an option to optimize video to Nokia E61 on the bottom left corner of the program.

    Works like a charm:)

  24. September 29th, 2006 | 7:02 pm

[…] Firstly spotted by Techmundo 2.0 a couple of days ago, DivX Player is probably the coolest free video player for S60 phones. For you who don’t know DivX, here is the description from Wikipedia web site: DivX is a video codec created by DivX, Inc. (formerly DivXNetworks, Inc.), which has become popular due to its ability to compress lengthy video segments into small sizes while maintaining relatively high visual quality. DivX uses lossy MPEG-4 Part 2 compression, where quality is balanced against file size for utility. […]

    Hi

My sound is very weak under divx player I would like to know if there is a way to boost it

and why tmpgenc cannot do more than 56 kb/s for the mpeg layer 3 audio encoder

is there anyway too tell him to keep the original sound ( just encoding the video)

    Thanks

  31. October 8th, 2006 | 12:41 pm

as far as i know no. the sound is a bit soft.

  32. October 15th, 2006 | 2:51 pm

    Ralf,

    You need to go to
    Tools/App.Manager > Options > Settings > Software installation
and changed it from ‘Signed only’ to ‘All’

My video freezes on the first frame in Real while Smartmovie or DIVx player cannot find my video files. Do you have any recommendations before I return this phone?

  34. October 18th, 2006 | 1:00 am

    @s3vst3r

divx has 2 demo files included. does these files freeze as well? if it does then I would say your e61’s a lemon

    October 22nd, 2006 | 7:56 pm

    Nope, those played OK.
    I returned my E62.
Nokia demostration center duplicated the same problem, Cingular store just said “return it”
i will buy E61, because I heard they have more video support

Hi. Its the first time im posting anything on a blog. I need help. There’s no place on the internet where i can find any solution to my problems.
    1. Are there any codecs for my e61 to play videos without stuttering downloaded on it?
    2. I convert my movies with “super” converter and the sound/video synch is not very good. What can i do with this?
    3. How can i add subtitles to my divx videos?
I hope someone can help me with this. Thanx

  37. October 31st, 2006 | 6:39 am

    @genth.
    1. regarding codecs. you can convert using super and output it as an ipod video file and use real player to play it, or covert using alot of other programs and output as divx and use the divx player described in this post.

    2. hmmm i can’t help you with that. all the vids i covert using super are synched. any ppl out there who can help genth?

    3. you can check out www.vcdhelp.com. they have lots of tutorials on encoding,e tc etc .you might find subtitling there also. may i ask why? it’ll be teeny tiny subtitles on the e61!

    October 31st, 2006 | 12:43 pm

Thx a lot man. I’m shocked to get an answer this fast.
    1. I ment the vids that i download on my e61 with eg. Google video. Just asking if theres a codec for my phone, to prevent:
    -download it on the nok.
    -copy to pc
    -convert
    -copy to phone
    -and then watch:)
    2. I just got media coder. I didnt install it yet, but i’m gonna check it out
    3. I was watching movies with subtitles on the n-gage. So i think it cant be that bad:)

4(sorry:)). Is there any possibility to play movies on the phone through google video or www.smog.com etc. ’cause there is some streaming in this nok.

  40. Genth
    October 31st, 2006 | 12:45 pm

    Sorry its www.smog.pl

  41. October 31st, 2006 | 3:29 pm

yup it will work with the n91.

genth, you can get videos online but i don’t think it will work right away. you need to convert it to either divx or mp4 so the e61 video players can recognize it.

If u have an error installing it on the E61, like “intsallation error” or so!!! i’ve had that problem 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    but i have a solution!!!!!!!!!

    Here it is:
    1. “must” download from PC from this website: http://mobile.divx.com/DivXPlayer_S60_3rd.sisx and save it to ur pc
    2. Have a [mini SD] to [SD] adapter and plug it in to ur PC
    3. And then copy the file u downloaded from ur pc to the memcard [Without] the pc suite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    4. and then instert the mem car back to into ur phone, go to [file manager] to install it from memcard
    5. IF NEEDED: go to Tools> App.mgr > Options> Setting> and check if u have the following:
    software instalations= [ALL]
    Online certf. check= [OFF]

Btw words between the [brackets] are important

    Hopes This Helps

Worked With me , GOOD luck

hint : if you can’t get the installer to work on your E61 then rename the file from .sisx to .sis and it should install.

    Hi
I installed Divx reader on my E61 so the problem I am living is that I can not see the Divx movie I saved on my E61. In other words when I try to open the file the system show me the demo files only.
I am sure the Divx files are in the phone because I can see these using file manager.
    Can someone help me?
    thanks
    M@x

  50. December 21st, 2006 | 4:20 pm

M@x, that hasn’t happened to me yet. maybe you haven’t converted the files first before putting it on the phone? the phone supports a much smaller divx than what’s readily downloadable from torrent sites

  51. Max
    December 22nd, 2006 | 1:22 am

    Hi Agwe23
    Thank you for your attention.
You say me I should convert the files? Let me understand: should I convert a Divx file to another format? It the E61 reader a Divx reader or not? For example could I read on my E61 phone the Divx movie I read on my PC using a normal Divx reader or not?

    Thanks again!

  52. December 22nd, 2006 | 6:55 am

usually the pc files are four times as big as the divx for e61.

    @ Max.

You MUST install the divxplayer on ur MEMORY card otherwise (because it is not signed) it will not be able to read the phones filesystem.
