Pivot Silicone Case for the E61

I finally received the Pivot Silicone case I ordered from Hong Kong yesterday afternoon. The USD$16.50 silicone case arrived two weeks after I ordered it from the Pivot Online Store. I paid USD$2.50 for registered mail shipping (HK to Philippines) which they said should take 5 to 14 days.

Their website showed two different colors available for the E61 — a frosty white and a graphite grey version. I opted for the grey colored case and when I opened the package I was less than impressed. The silicone case came in a generic looking box that was squashed by the postal system.

I clothed the Nokia E61 with the silicone case and it fits nicely. Not as snug as I would’ve like, but I think the general shape of the E61 prohibits the creation of a case that would nicely hug the phone. The Nokia E61 has narrow strips of areas that the silicone case tried to cover (like the buttons and joystick at the center, and the bottom lip of the phone) and in these areas, the silicone case just doesn’t feel snug. Although I must admit that the case is nicely manufactured. The seams of the case are trimmed cleanly.

Holding the phone with the silicone case attached feels nice. The closest description I could come up with is that it feels velvety. The silicone case manages to soften the cold metallic feel of the phone. In the end, it does its job well, the Pivot Silicone Case protects the E61 from dings and scratches that will most likely plague most handheld electronic device.

I encountered some probles with the silicone case. Having a silicone case attached to the phone obviously added some thickness to phone (not by much, because it is very very thin), but the added thickness made operating the joystick troublesome — when before, the joystick stuck out a little bit from the phone, now it’s almost at the same level with everything else). The same is true with the keys at the corners the keyboard (Q, P, Blue Function Key and Chr), the silicone made it harder to press by a tiny bit.

Overall, I like the fact that my E61 is protected from the elements. I am not known to be a good caretaker of my devices, so I try to cover with screen protectors and silicone case every single item I possess. The Pivot Silicone Case may not be a perfect solution to your phone’s protection, but it does the job adequately.

The Pivot Silicone Case is rated 3/5.

The search for the nicest E61 case continues . . .

Brownie points for those who can guess what book I used to prop up the E61 and the box for the photo. :)
