    @ Steve. thanks steve. I was looking for that, ‘coz I remember a day or two ago I did something in the audio player that was similar to what page down in the pc would’ve done and I couldn’t duplicate it yesterday when I was collating all the shortcuts for the phone. I’ll update the list in a little bit!

    @Daniel. Thanks.

  5. September 13th, 2006 | 11:50 pm

    What about the shortcuts in Gallery/Images? i.e. 3 to rotate, 5 to zoom, * to go full-screen, 0 to zoom out, etc.

    Also worth noting that 99% of these shortcuts work on any Eseries, or for that matter, any S60 3rd Edition device.

    hehe i haven’t played with the gallery yet ‘coz I don’t have any pictures loaded on the phone yet. I’ll update the list with the shortcuts you provided. Thanks steve!

    Thankyou for the shortcuts — especially 2 in RealPlayer, I desperately needed that :)

  11. September 15th, 2006 | 12:38 pm

    Not a problem dude. I used to pause the video in real player just so I can replay it again in full screen before I found out there’s a hot key to play th video in full screen right away! :)

  12. September 15th, 2006 | 1:10 pm

    One keyboard shortcut that I find invaluable is in Messaging and is especially helpful when I receive tons of email that I want to get rid of (I use my hosted Exchange to send email to my device from Gmail and then delete it from my device and use Gmail to archive it).

    Anyways, in Messaging you can press the Shift arrow and then in on the directional pad to Mark a message. I then go through tons of email like this and then select Options>Delete. Or you can even press in on the direction pad, with no Shift press, and select Delete.

    Really like the theme you’ve got on your E61. Where can I get it?

  14. September 15th, 2006 | 3:20 pm

    @palmsolo.
    no need to select options > delete. just click the clear button (left arrow) and it will erase the messages.

    @macberry.
    the theme is S60 Metal Theme.

    I downloaded both versions of the metal theme, but when I try to install, it says it is not supported. In fact, the E61 is not listed as a supported phone. How did u get yours to install.

    Thanks

  21. September 17th, 2006 | 4:17 pm

    i actually don’t know. heheh I think there are 2 versions there on their website? I just got one and it workd. heheh I don’t want to do it again ‘coz it might mess up the one already installed in my phone and I like the theme so much :)

I dropped my E61 today ( from about 3 feet onto the office floor - carpetted ) and it will not restart , the screen is lit but white. Is there a way to reboot. I have removed the battery used charger only etc etc to no avail. If anyone knows a quick restart method !!

  43. September 27th, 2006 | 1:27 pm

    @ simon. if removing the battery didnt help, I’m afraid those hard reboots found on this page won’t work as well; but give them a try, who knows. my suggestion, bring the phone to a nokia service center. best of luck.

    I’m so glad I found your page. I’m getting a e62 on Tuesday. My daughters treo 600 died and I’m giving her my 650. Cingular (US) is taking too long to bring out the new treo and I don’t mind trying something else. Besides although the new treos are supposed to be less expensive than in the past, that relative. The e62 will be 150.oo (USD) so if I really hate it and decide to get the new treo when ever it appears, it won’t have put too big a crimp in my finances

    Hi! I’ve just found a tip, not a shortcut or secret code, but may be useful. Browsing through the list of names in contacts is quite slow (joystick down). To make it faster, enter anything into the search (just one letter is sufficient), then delete it to see the whole list (backspace). Now browsing is quite faster. Don’t know why it works, but it does. I have old firmware, I don’t know if it works in the new one.

    when you create new sms, just type your contact name instead of selecting from phonebook, type the message and press ‘call’ button. it will then search the phonebook for matches. if the name is unique it will just send, otherwise it will display the list of matches for selection.

    […] I just got a brand spankin new Nokia E62 and I must say this phone is impressive. I haven’t used a Nokia since I had an ugly shoe phone 4 years ago and have been using a SonyEricsson T637 for about 3 years so this phone was quite a change for me. I promptly setup my Gmail account and then copied all my contacts off my SIM card only to discover that there were duplicate entries for a few contacts. I found that it had made my contacts First Last /M or /H for home or mobile. Not clean at all. I needed to sync this with my Mac and I found an entry @ FreeBSDGirl that explained how to use iSync with your E62 and this worked flawlessly. I now have iCal and Address book in harmony again and that is nice. Also while browsing her blog, I found that she had PuTTY. This was a bit to get used to, but after playing with settings (and remembering what port I’m runnning SSH on) for a while I got connected to my server. This is going to be extremely handy. I have a few ideas for a few scripts I’d like to have and if they are any good, I’ll share them. So far, this phone is great and as I learn more about it I’ll be sure to share. So far, I’ve installed Google Mobile Maps and PuTTY for Symbian OS. Naturally, I’m on the lookout for some other cool applications so comment if you know of any others! Here are some other links that may be of interest: Shortcuts and secret codes and last but not least, an excellent blog on the E-Series phones. […]
