Sweet. This is a great set of shortcuts
Thx mate.
Don’t forget, again in any text app, ctrl+up or down for page up and page down….
Steve
@ Steve. thanks steve. I was looking for that, ‘coz I remember a day or two ago I did something in the audio player that was similar to what page down in the pc would’ve done and I couldn’t duplicate it yesterday when I was collating all the shortcuts for the phone. I’ll update the list in a little bit!
@Daniel. Thanks.
great tips
What about the shortcuts in Gallery/Images? i.e. 3 to rotate, 5 to zoom, * to go full-screen, 0 to zoom out, etc.
Also worth noting that 99% of these shortcuts work on any Eseries, or for that matter, any S60 3rd Edition device.

Shortcuts and Secret Codes
Great summary at Techmundo: E61 Shortcuts and Secret Codes The title says E61, but most of the shortcuts and “secret” codes work on any S60 3rd Edition device….
hehe i haven’t played with the gallery yet ‘coz I don’t have any pictures loaded on the phone yet. I’ll update the list with the shortcuts you provided. Thanks steve!
[…] Check it out here. […]
@ steve, post updated! thanks sir!
Thankyou for the shortcuts — especially 2 in RealPlayer, I desperately needed that
Not a problem dude. I used to pause the video in real player just so I can replay it again in full screen before I found out there’s a hot key to play th video in full screen right away!
One keyboard shortcut that I find invaluable is in Messaging and is especially helpful when I receive tons of email that I want to get rid of (I use my hosted Exchange to send email to my device from Gmail and then delete it from my device and use Gmail to archive it).
Anyways, in Messaging you can press the Shift arrow and then in on the directional pad to Mark a message. I then go through tons of email like this and then select Options>Delete. Or you can even press in on the direction pad, with no Shift press, and select Delete.
Really like the theme you’ve got on your E61. Where can I get it?
@palmsolo.
no need to select options > delete. just click the clear button (left arrow) and it will erase the messages.
@macberry.
the theme is S60 Metal Theme.
brilliant !
What about in ” Sheet “, how to copy formula ?
Tks
@ paul. thanks!
@ silverb . . . i’m playing right now with sheet. it’s my first time to fiddle with it today. maybe by tomorrow i’ll have an update on the tips for the sheet app.
Hi,
Just wondered which theme you are using on the E61 and where you got it from? The brushed aluminum looking one.
Ta.
Simon
@simon, its the s60 metal theme. check out my comment #14 on this post, the link is there!
I downloaded both versions of the metal theme, but when I try to install, it says it is not supported. In fact, the E61 is not listed as a supported phone. How did u get yours to install.
Thanks
i actually don’t know. heheh I think there are 2 versions there on their website? I just got one and it workd. heheh I don’t want to do it again ‘coz it might mess up the one already installed in my phone and I like the theme so much
Dunque, cosa aspettate a provarle? […]
One good shortcut I use a lot. Press and hold the red button in stand-by mode asks to end any UMTS/GPRS connection. Helps me a lot keep up the good work.
@ chris. thanks alot!!! i’ve been searching for that shortcut!!!

There are 2 other shortcuts

In the User Guide book of E61 , it says Ctrl + Z shortcut for undo, but when I tried, nothing happend.
thank you for such an informative blog, and comprehensive lists of shortcuts.
Btw, is there any way / shortcut which allows me to highlight and then copy text in a webpage (i.e. when using the Nokia web browser)?
@alanine . .. copy text in webpage? at the moment no . . . thanks and keep on reading!
thx for reply, and hope this feature will be included in the upcoming web browser 2.0

I have noticed that your list doesn’t not include the shortcuts for Calendar and Flash Player
Calendar: * toggles between Month, Week, Day, and To-Do views
# goes to today
Flash Player: Call button (Green) to send a file to a compatible device
and Backspace to delete selected file
see my blog for more interesting stuff about my (and your) E61: www.jake61.wordpress.com
thanks for all the tips. am not much of a techie kaya thankful talaga ako sa mga shortcuts. i was hoping you can help me with a problem of mine. am trying to surf with my macbook using the e61 as the modem. do i need the cable, or thru IR puede? can you point me to a webpage detailing how?
enjoy your singapore trip. i lived there for 10 months, kakauwi ko lang, so kung may tanong ka kung saan matatagpuan ang ano ano eh shoot me na email.
thanks
thanks jake. i’ll update the list shortly!
I dropped my E61 today ( from about 3 feet onto the office floor - carpetted ) and it will not restart , the screen is lit but white. Is there a way to reboot. I have removed the battery used charger only etc etc to no avail. If anyone knows a quick restart method !!
@ simon. if removing the battery didnt help, I’m afraid those hard reboots found on this page won’t work as well; but give them a try, who knows. my suggestion, bring the phone to a nokia service center. best of luck.
*#7780# soft resets the phone and reset phone settings
*#7370# hard resets the phone
Hi agwe23 and all E61′ers out there..
Desperately seeking a shortcut for Page-Up/Down in the browser. It’s a real pain to keep pushing the little “joy” stick.
Thanks in advance.
very good tips

A new shortcut that i just discovered. I haven’t seen it here (or anywhere else for that matter) but apologies if it’s already there and i simply didn’t see it:
in the standy screen or any other application, hold down the email key to launch messaging and start writing a new email using your default email account.

Perfecto los trucos funcionan para el Nokia 3250. Sweet…!
I’m so glad I found your page. I’m getting a e62 on Tuesday. My daughters treo 600 died and I’m giving her my 650. Cingular (US) is taking too long to bring out the new treo and I don’t mind trying something else. Besides although the new treos are supposed to be less expensive than in the past, that relative. The e62 will be 150.oo (USD) so if I really hate it and decide to get the new treo when ever it appears, it won’t have put too big a crimp in my finances
Intelligent and fantastic!
Does anyone know how to find out what IP address the E61 is using when connected to WLAN? The Connection Manager shows signal strength, transmit power, etc. but no IP address.
Hi,
Am a happy novice user of the e61.
Is there a way to change font type or size when typing text messages ?
How do i view word documents ? All the MS Word documents i tried to view on my e61 turn up as gibberish and unreadable. Is there some convertor that i need to set up / install ?
Thanks,
Hubert
Hi! I’ve just found a tip, not a shortcut or secret code, but may be useful. Browsing through the list of names in contacts is quite slow (joystick down). To make it faster, enter anything into the search (just one letter is sufficient), then delete it to see the whole list (backspace). Now browsing is quite faster. Don’t know why it works, but it does. I have old firmware, I don’t know if it works in the new one.
Very nice
I will join the party
in messages (when you see full list of Incoming/Outgoing/Drafts/Templates messages)

nice tips …but I am looking for any tips or idea in brows to download .sis extintion
The volume on my earbud and blue tooth acr kit is too low even when set to full volume. Does anyone know if the new firmware will sort this out?

Great list of shortcuts, but I was wondering, do you or anybody else, know how to copy and paste text on a webpage in the web browser? Is there a shortcut to do so?
@roel. sadly you can’t copy/paste the text in websites.

does anybody know if it possible to search/sort contacts by Company Name and eventually by other criteria: country, town, postal code , phone number??
Thanks
Grizzly
@grizly. nope. as far as i know it’s not possible
another tips.
when you create new sms, just type your contact name instead of selecting from phonebook, type the message and press ‘call’ button. it will then search the phonebook for matches. if the name is unique it will just send, otherwise it will display the list of matches for selection.
Haven’t seen this tip, but may have missed it:
In stand-by, press and hold the Menu key (left of the joystick) to show a list of open applications. Can then fast-switch to one of them.

I use this shortcut for deleting emails, and un-installing programs, and come across it in many more progs.
It’s the combination blue key (left-bottom) and then the backspace key.
This intantly deletes an read email for you (way faster via the menu).
Not sure if this hasn’t been discovered earlier yet (it’s not on the list)… hope it’s usefull for you!

[…] I just got a brand spankin new Nokia E62 and I must say this phone is impressive. I haven’t used a Nokia since I had an ugly shoe phone 4 years ago and have been using a SonyEricsson T637 for about 3 years so this phone was quite a change for me. I promptly setup my Gmail account and then copied all my contacts off my SIM card only to discover that there were duplicate entries for a few contacts. I found that it had made my contacts First Last /M or /H for home or mobile. Not clean at all. I needed to sync this with my Mac and I found an entry @ FreeBSDGirl that explained how to use iSync with your E62 and this worked flawlessly. I now have iCal and Address book in harmony again and that is nice. Also while browsing her blog, I found that she had PuTTY. This was a bit to get used to, but after playing with settings (and remembering what port I’m runnning SSH on) for a while I got connected to my server. This is going to be extremely handy. I have a few ideas for a few scripts I’d like to have and if they are any good, I’ll share them. So far, this phone is great and as I learn more about it I’ll be sure to share. So far, I’ve installed Google Mobile Maps and PuTTY for Symbian OS. Naturally, I’m on the lookout for some other cool applications so comment if you know of any others! Here are some other links that may be of interest: Shortcuts and secret codes and last but not least, an excellent blog on the E-Series phones. […]
